Chicago, Illinois Defeats San Cristobal, Dominican Republic 16-5

In game nine of the 2019 Bronco-11 World Series, Chicago, Illinois defeated San Cristobal, Dominican Republic 16-5. Jamir Scott’s pitching powered Chicago’s defense. Scott allowed only one earned run over 4.1 innings pitched and struck out two. 


Chicago struck twice in the top of the first to open the scoring. Christian Lott opened the game’s scoring with a single to right field that scored Rahjon Williams. Lott was also able to score thanks to Miles Warner’s single to right field. 


Chicago added one more run in the top of the second to take a 3-0 lead. Antonio Porterfield reached on an error that scored Brian Grant, who singled earlier in the inning. 


San Cristobal scored its first run in the bottom of the second to cut into Chicago’s lead. Derek DeLaRosa singled to center field to start the inning. DeLaRosa then stole second and advanced to third on a fielder’s choice. Dewin Richards singled to center field, scoring DeLaRosa. 


San Cristobal added three more runs in the bottom of the third to take a 4-3 lead. A wild pitch let Felix Genao score San Cristobal’s first run of the inning. A Domingo Mork single then scored Angel Cuello, tying the game at three. Richards gave San Cristobal a one run lead on his RBI single to center field that scored DeLaRosa.


Chicago answered immediately, scoring three runs in the top of the fourth to regain the lead. Grant scored the inning’s first run on a wild pitch, followed by Derrick Davis III scoring on Nazyr Dawson’s single. Dawson scored the third run of the inning on another wild pitch, giving Chicago a two run lead. 


Chicago added four more runs in the top of the fifth to expand on its lead. Trevion Robinson hit an infield single that scored Scott. Porterfield then doubled, scoring Grant. Porterfield stole third then scored on a wild pitch. Dawson then tripled, scoring Jayden Hawkins for Chicago’s final run of the inning.


San Cristobal added one more run in the bottom of the fifth. Richards reached on a fielding error that also allowed DeLaRosa to score. 


Chicago broke the game up, scoring two runs in the top of the sixth and four runs in the top of the seventh. In the top of the sixth, Robinson’s sacrifice fly to right field scored both Williams and Lott. Porterfield stole home to open Chicago’s scoring in the top of the seventh. Lott then singled, scoring Dawson. A fielder’s choice allowed Williams to score, followed by a balk that scored Lott for Chicago’s final run of the game.


Chicago advances and plays Navojoa, Mexico at 8:00 p.m. ET/US on Sunday, July 28 at Harry G. Daniel Park at Iron Bridge. San Cristobal ends its 2019 B11WS run after compiling a 1-2 record in the tournament.
