Chicago, Illinois Defeats the Bronx, New York 20-10

In game five of the 2019 Bronco-11 World Series (B11WS), Chicago, Illinois defeated the Bronx, New York 20-10 in a five inning, ten run rule game. Chicago’s electric offense was led by Brian Grant, who had a game leading three RBI’s on the night.


The Bronx jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to Jhonsy Caraballo’s suicide squeeze and a pitching error that allowed Jayren Mejia to score. 


Chicago exploded for eight runs in the bottom half of the first to respond. Christian Lott opened Chicago’s scoring with an RBI single to center field. A wild pitch let Rahjon Williams to score Chicago’s second run of the inning. Christian Hudson was walked with the bases loaded, scoring Lott. Miles Warner scored Chicago’s fourth run on a wild pitch. Edwin Hernandez was walked with the bases loaded, which scored Grant. For Chicago’s sixth run, Nazyr Dawson was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, scoring Hudson. Jeremiah Henry scored on a wild pitch, making the score 7-2 in favor of Chicago. A sacrifice fly by Williams scored E. Hernandez for the final run of the inning. 


After Chicago’s offensive explosion, the Bronx added two runs in the top of the second to chip away at Chicago’s lead. Ricardo Martinez grounded out into a fielder’s choice that scored Luis Hernandez. A fielding error let Emmanuel Zambrano score the Bronx’s last run of the inning. 


Chicago answered back, adding two runs in the bottom of the second. A fielder’s choice scored Warner and gave Chicago its ninth run of the game. Jamir Scott scored the tenth run on a failed pickoff attempt that resulted in a throwing error.  


The Bronx scored one run in the top of the third and five runs in the top of the fourth to tie the game. In the third inning, Jake Acosta scored on a balk. Justin Otis opened the scoring in the fourth with a double to left field that scored Zambrano and Martinez. Otis scored the Bronx’s eighth run of the game on a balk, followed by Acosta scoring on a wild pitch. Martinez scored the Bronx’s tenth run to tie the game due to a balk by the opposing pitcher. 


After being rattled in the fourth inning, Chicago’s juggernaut offense responded in the bottom of the fifth with ten runs. A fielding error enabled Hudson to score, opening the scoring for the inning. Derrick Davis III had an RBI double to right field that scored Trevion Robinson. Chicago’s thirteenth and fourteenth runs came from RBI singles by Lott and Antonio Porterfield. Lott then scored on a wild pitch, giving Chicago a five run lead. A Grant double to right field knocked in Porterfield and Scott, which made the score 17-10 in favor of Chicago. Chicago added two more runs on RBI singles by Hudson and Davis III, followed by a defensive error that allowed Davis III to score. 


Chicago will face Navojoa, Mexico at 5:30 p.m. ET/US on Sunday, July 28 at Harry G. Daniel Park at Iron Bridge. The Bronx ends its official B11WS run after going 0-2 and will face Chesterfield, Virginia in a consolation game at 2:00 p.m. ET/US on Sunday, July 28.
