Navojoa, Mexico Defeats San Cristobal, Dominican Republic 2-1

In game 7 of the 2019 Bronco-11 World Series (B11WS), Navojoa, Mexico defeated San Cristobal, Dominican Republic by a score of 2-1 thanks to an Ivan Gutierrez walk-off hit. Navojoa’s Charbel Barreras dazzled on the mound, striking out a total of 11, which is the second most ever in a B11WS game. 


Barreras was the defensive star throughout the night for Navojoa. Barreras allowed only one earned run over the course of 6.1 innings. Barreras pitched a no hitter through six complete innings before it was broken up by a Felix Genao double in the top of the seventh. 


For San Cristobal, Jhonny Vasquez also proved to be dominant on the mound. Vasquez allowed one earned run over 4.1 innings pitched while striking out five. 


Navojoa scored one run in the bottom of the fifth to open the scoring for the game. Emiliano Ibarro started the inning with a walk before getting out at second due to Kevin Palafox hitting into a fielder’s choice. Palafox advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored because of Franco Mendoza’s double to right field. 


In a heroic effort, San Cristobal managed to score one run in the top of the seventh to tie the game. Felix Genao opened the inning with a double before advancing to third on a fielder’s choice. Angel Cuello then grounded into a fielder’s choice, which scored Genao.


In the top of the seventh, Navojoa won thanks to walk-off. Angel Tajia started the inning with a walk and stole second and third. Gutierrez then reached on a fielding error, which scored Tajia, winning the game for Navojoa. 


Navojoa will play the winner of Chicago, Illinois vs. San Cristobal, Dominican Republic at 8:00 p.m. ET/US on Sunday, July 28 at Harry G. Daniel Park at Iron Bridge. San Cristobal will play Chicago at 5:30 p.m. ET/US on Sunday, July 28.
