Redondo Beach, California Defeats San Antonio, Texas 6-0

In game eight of the 2019 Bronco-11 World Series, Redondo Beach, California defeated San Antonio, Texas 6-0. Redondo Beach relied on strong pitching performances from Eugene Guerrero, Eric Tani, Tanner Davison, and Robert Zimmerman, all of whom combined for eight total strikeouts.

Redondo Beach jumped out to an early 3-0 in the top of the first to open the scoring. Back to back singles by Keijiro Hattori and Travis Dulmage put runners on the corners with no outs. A Davison double then scored Hattori and moved Dulmage to third. Dulmage scored on a passed ball that moved Davison to third. Redondo Beach’s final run of the inning came when Jake Kim grounded out to the first baseman, which scored Davison.

The game would be quiet until the bottom of the fifth inning when Redondo Beach managed to plate two more runs. Jamison Brack singled to start the inning, followed by another single by Hattori, which moved Brack to third. Hattori stole second before a defensive error allowed both Brack and Hattori to score, giving Redondo Beach a 5-0 lead.

Redondo Beach’s final run came in the bottom of the sixth. Tani hit into a fielder’s choice to reach base, then advanced to second on another fielder’s choice. A passed ball let Tani advance to third and another infield error let him score.

Despite Matthew Pena’s strong pitching performance for San Antonio, San Antonio was not able to hold back Redondo Beach’s explosive offense. Pena allowed only three earned runs and struck out one over six innings pitched.

Redondo Beach will play the winner of San Antonio, Texas vs. Luzon, Philippines at 8:00 p.m. ET/US on Sunday, July 28 at Harry G. Daniel Park at Iron Bridge. San Antonio will play in an elimination game against Luzon, Philippines at 5:30 p.m. ET/US on Sunday, July 28.
