The Bronx, New York Defeats Chesterfield, Virginia 5-1

The Bronx, New York defeated Chesterfield, Virginia 5-1 in Sunday’s Bronco-11 World Series (B11WS) consolation game. San Antonio’s Jake Acosta stifled Chesterfield batters, allowing only three hits and striking out four over six complete innings. 


The Bronx scored two runs in the top of the first to open the scoring. Ricardo Martinez got the first hit of the game with a double to left field. Kristopher Paredez walked, putting runners on first and second. A fielding error then scored Martinez and advanced Paredez to third. The Bronx’s second run came on another defensive error that scored Paredez.


Scoring was quiet until the top of the fourth when the Bronx scored three runs to take a 5-0 lead. With two outs, Luis Hernandez walked and Joan Tejada singled to center field, advancing Hernandez to third. Acosta singled to left field, scoring Hernandez and advancing Tejada to second. Ricardo Martinez was walked, loading the bases. The Bronx’s last two runs of the inning came from Jayren Mejia’s double to center field, which scored both Tejada and Acosta. 


Chesterfield managed to get on the board in the bottom of the seventh, plating one run. Nate Reed led off the inning with a walk, followed by Jakub Bowen reaching on an error, which advanced Reed to third. A passed ball allowed Reed to score Chesterfield’s only run of the game. 


Chesterfield and the Bronx both end their run in the 2019 B11WS. Chesterfield finished 0-3 and the Bronx finished 1-2, with its only win coming in Sunday’s consolation game.
